What to check before you buy
- Canopy diameter
- Under 38 inches covers one person; 44 inches and above shelters two or keeps a backpack dry.
- Vented canopy
- A double-layer vent lets gusts escape instead of inverting the frame. It is the single best predictor of survival in wind.
- Auto open and close
- Convenient at a car door, but the extra mechanism adds weight and one more failure point.
