Why this site exists

What we do

Most shopping for outerwear happens on a product page that tells you a coat is “classic” and “water-resistant” without explaining what either word means in practice. We write the missing part: how the fabric behaves in real rain, how the sizing runs once you add a sweater, what a liner is actually worth, and which failure points show up after a year.

How we research

• We read the full specification of each style, including fabric blend, lining, closure and measured dimensions, rather than the marketing summary.
• We compare listings across sizes and colours, because fit complaints cluster around specific variants.
• We read verified customer reviews in volume and look for repeated, specific problems, not isolated opinions.
• We test general care and repellency methods on comparable water-repellent garments and report what worked.

Where we cannot verify a claim, we say so instead of filling the gap. We do not publish invented test results, ratings or statistics.

Editorial independence

No manufacturer or retailer pays for coverage, placement or a favourable conclusion. When a product is a poor choice for a given reader, the guide says so. Recommendations are grouped by use case, because the “best” coat for a commuter and for an occasional traveller are rarely the same coat.
